Months ago (has it really been that long?) I started a Lonely Lisa project. Lisa was a floppy, filthy mess. She was cleaned up, re-stuffed, accidentally ripped and mended. Today, she’s a tidy girl, and warmly dressed for woodland adventures…..
Lonely Lisa is dressed in “Mori Girl” style. If you’re not familiar, Mori Girl style is a Japanese fashion trend which means “Forest” girl. I’m not sure if my attempt is a complete miss, but it was fun for me to try the style. I love the layered clothes, the warm earthy tones, and the lavish use of lace.
Lisa has a long dress with torn-edge ruffled hem. Her petticoat is vintage, salvaged from an antique doll, and patched here and there with the fabric used for her dress. Her wooly cardigan and brown check scarf keep the cold out and a rosette head wrap makes her hair stay in place. You can’t see the long brown striped stockings or the thick brown boot warmers that tuck into her sturdy black footwear. She wears a tiny wishbone on a silk ribbon around her neck. She may need to snap it for an emergency. You never know what may happen in the woods……
I just saw your photos on Flickr. You did a great job repairing and cleaning her up. The outfit is awesome! I love the layers and the earthy colors. Great job!
Thank you! I’m so happy that she’s all finished up. These dolls are so fun to fix up!
The black and white photos are awesome! Love the outfit, and the wishbone is a great accessory, fantastic job you did!
Thank you! The black and white photo was the result of some fun editing. You can try it out for yourself. It’s a Japanese site, but it’s not too hard to figure it out:

I read about it in an article in FDQ by Ian Price. Have fun!
These are wonderful photos! I love her somber expression.
I know! Such a serious face! And those big eyes really do it for me, too! Very Margaret Keane, I guess. : )
I love that her eyes are brown too. That’s so rare on dolls!
I’m 59 and I’ve had my Lonely Lisa most of my life. She needs to FIXED up. But where? I live in the Chicago area. HELP. I’m afraid I want the best for her.
So sorry for missing your comment. You can certainly fix Lonely Lisa up yourself! It isn’t hard, but it is a bit time consuming. Give it a try! I’m sure you’ll be happy with the results!
This is wonderful. I have my Lonely Lisa doll from when I was a child. And yes,, my bedroom walls also had the pictures of the wide eyed sweet girls. My lonely Lisa has he black and red gingham dress. I’m so inspired by your blog. I was actually thinking about selling her, but now I’m not too sure 🙂
Thanks for your kind words! I hope you’ll keep your Lisa-they really are special!
